What is BreathEra® Breathworks?

Picture
BreathEra® Breathworks is a groundbreaking breathwork techniques that represents a forward breakthrough for the global breathing community. As the first of its kind, BreathEra® blends cutting-edge breathwork with applied neuroscience to help individuals achieve deeper mental & physical wellbeing.

The name BreathEra® was carefully chosen to reflect a tri-fold concept: breathe, breath, & the era of breathing. This name captures the essence of the current moment—an era where breathing is no longer taken for granted, but consciously learned, practised, & refined. It represents a timely response to the rising need for intentional breathwork in our overstimulated, fast-paced modern world.

This pioneering system combines a wide range of breathing techniques with somatic inputs & neuro-regulation tools, helping to facilitate measurable changes in emotional balance, cognitive clarity, sleep quality, & nervous system function. Developed at the Movement & Sports Medicine Centre (MSMC) in Singapore, BreathEra® was born from a need to provide a more holistic, accessible approach to mind-body optimisation—especially for those experiencing modern-day stressors like high screen time, sedentary behaviour, emotional fatigue, & unstable mental health(stress). The diaphragm, the most efficient muscle for breathing, does about 80 percent of the work for people with healthy lungs, making it a key focus in many of these techniques. Breath work practices such as diaphragmatic breathing may help reduce anxiety and improve overall heart health.

Since its inception, BreathEra® has grown rapidly, gaining international recognition & being featured in renowned publications such as Vogue, Lianhe Zaobao, & Harper’s Bazaar. It has also earned a place among the top-rated neuro-breathing workshops worldwide, standing out for its layered experience that goes beyond traditional breathwork practices.

A core feature of the system is the Neuro Series, a suite of targeted breath-control classes that dive even deeper into the nervous system with different breathwork techniques. These classes are informed by applied neurology, incorporating visual drills, body-mapping cues, sound integration, & breathing rhythms that stimulate different brain regions. The result is a full-spectrum approach that supports mental clarity, emotional regulation, pain relief, & physical performance. BreathEra sessions may include a pH test to demonstrate changes in bodily states due to breath control.

Whether you're looking to calm the mind, benefit from potential health benefits, or deepen your self-awareness, BreathEra® breath work offers a structure that supports transformation at every level. This is not just a class—it's a new era for various breathwork techniques of breath manipulation, & a rising standard for what conscious breathing can offer the modern world.

BreathEra®: Breathing Techniques

Picture
BreathEra® is not confined to a single school of breathwork. We do not follow a rigid style or tradition—instead, we embrace a multidisciplinary approach grounded in science, therapeutic practice, & somatic awareness(physical sensations). Our method integrates a wide range of techniques—from ancient pranayama to modern respiratory physiology—to offer students a comprehensive understanding of how breath affects both mind & body. BreathEra classes are facilitated by yoga or mindfulness teachers who have received additional training in breathwork, ensuring a high standard of guidance.

We are not here to reinvent breathing—we are here to organise, layer, & refine what already exists. Each relaxation technique is carefully curated, tested, & applied within a framework that allows participants to explore the breath as a tool for change. This is a living, evolving system that continues to grow with every class, practitioner, & insight gained through practical application.

We use evidence-based outcome methods to guide every session—ensuring the breath techniques applied are not only experiential, but effective. This means that participants often experience faster, deeper resets—both neurologically & physiologically. Even when the shifts are subtle, the body has already begun to change. With consistency, these changes compound, supporting long-term wellbeing & adaptability. Slow-paced breathing practices, for instance, can increase heart-rate variability, which is beneficial for mental health.

The result? BreathEra® becomes a dynamic ecosystem of breath-based experiences that are accessible to beginners yet sophisticated enough for advanced learners or professionals in wellness & healthcare. It is a truly inclusive model, welcoming all to experience the transformative power of the breath—one layer at a time.

Chronic Stress & Breathing

breath work lower stress hormones
Breathing & stress are intimately connected—every thought, every mental and physical health, emotional shift, every stressful event subtly reshapes how we breathe. When we are under long term parasympathetic nervous system response, our breathing tends to become shallow, fast, & irregular. This pattern feeds back into the brain system, reinforcing anxiety, tension, & physiological imbalance, often leading to high blood pressure, anxiety disorders/ mental health conditions, & even cardiovascular disease.

Intentional breathing exercises(deep abdominal breathing)—when done with precision & purpose—offers one of the fastest ways & significant decrease to shift the body from a reactive, fight-or-flight state to a more relaxed, regulated one. The vagus nerve, which plays a key role in parasympathetic regulation, is directly influenced by how we breathe. This means that every exhale can be a tool for healing & stress reduction.

What makes practicing breathwork such as BreathEra® unique, is the integration of breathing with neurological approaches. By engaging the senses—vision, proprioception, sound—we activate the entire body-brain loop to the present moment. This not only enhances body awareness but also accelerates how quickly we down-regulate stress responses, often ending with stress relief of both the mind & body. Breathing techniques, including box breathing or 4-7-8 breathing, are particularly effective in reducing breathlessness, anxiety, and depression in various populations.

BreathEra® breath work methods are gaining popularity for this very reason: they deliver deeper, more lasting resets. By combining structured breathwork with neurological drills, we empower individuals to reclaim balance, clarity, & emotional resilience. This makes BreathEra® a modern solution for modern stress—evidence-informed, deeply felt, & designed for transformation. Breath work also promotes overall well-being by alleviating symptoms of depression & increasing feelings of well-being.

Breathwork Intervention

Breathing exercises are not just a background function—it’s your body’s first & most accessible tool for transformation. At BreathEra®, we recognise breath as a primary intervention for life’s most pressing challenges: from managing addiction to improving focus, making decisions under pressure, or finding mental stability during emotionally turbulent times, & we start by deep breathing exercises. BreathEra encourages learning how to enhance oxygen intake and optimize blood flow during sessions.

Research in neuroscience & psychology shows that many other breathing exercises has a direct impact on the limbic system, prefrontal cortex, & vagus nerve—all of which are deeply involved in emotional regulation, decision-making, & behaviour change. By influencing these systems through specific breathing techniques(belly breathing, holotropic breathwork, box breathing etc), we can create rapid shifts in both mindset & physiology.

In clinical & therapeutic settings, breathwork has been used to support interventions for:
  • Addiction recovery & craving regulation
  • Executive function & mental clarity
  • Emotional processing & trauma support
  • Behavioural reset & decision-making
  • Improved self-awareness & reduced impulsivity
  • Shallow breathing & post traumatic stress

What makes this approach even more powerful is when deep breathing is paired with regulation or movement—turning a passive act into an embodied tool. When the body participates fully, the shift isn’t just theoretical—it’s felt. However, breathwork may induce hyperventilation, which can be dangerous, especially for beginners.

BreathEra
® trains you to use this tool effectively. In our classes, we provide repeatable, science-backed breathing techniques that act as a foundation for real-world interventions, & this can be in the goal of relaxation techniques, slow paced breathing, lowered stress and anxiety, or psychological distress. The breath becomes a lever for change—simple, portable, & immediately available. Individuals with current medical conditions should consult a healthcare provider before starting breathwork exercises.

Mastering controlled breathing means mastering your inner state. & once you can shift your internal world, your external world starts to change too.
