Many people are understandably nervous when it comes to attending a sound baths if you've never attended one (it seems like a cult thing to get into right). If you do a quick google on sound bath or youtube, you will find plenty of videos & articles written on it. You might have even listened to one. However, you would still need to experience it yourself as there is nothing quite like it. A sound bath is typically referred to as an alternative healing session using either music or an instrument. A sound bath uses sound made via different instruments which may include:
Sound baths also like yoga are not a new thing, it's been used for more than a few thousand years, by shamans, in every religious ceremony & find the higher self through meditation using sounds. Are sound healing good for you though?
Like after anyone's first session, they will tell you this, that "Sound bath is something you want to experience," often time we allow ourselves to not realise how sounds or certain music/ frequencies affects us. A great example is to listen to a list of different music say, a Mozart playlist, & listen to a high pumping rave music, then switch over to a sad melodic piano song (what an emotional roller coaster right).
The first thing you should take note of is that benefits of a sound bath overwrite the dangers of it (literally zero), because essentially, you are just laying down, listening to musical instruments, there is nothing fancy to it. Albeit it being basic, experiencing a sound session allows deep state of rest, allowing you to promote calmness which decreases the inflammatory markers of our body from environmental stressors such as work, relationships, etc. This come from the sound coming in from selected instruments which also allows you to help entrain the brain to a range of brain waves like the Gamma, Beta, Alpha, (after "alpha" is when you fall into the sleep zone) Theta, & Delta, which helps in either a deeper level of relaxation & meditative state of mind (meditation). Our body is like a rubber band taking a bit too much stretch for too long & needs to come back to its original resting length ( before it snaps) so to speak, & allowing yourself to deeply rest it helps bring it back to storing energy for whatever life brings. That is one of the highest reason why meditation is popular (the effect).
A sound bath is done mindfully with chosen environment & vibrational frequencies of instrument(s) to help promote a sense of calm/peace from inside out, you can do it with almost anything & be anywhere with a bit of awareness.

How do you do a sound healing / therapy session?
Essentially you can experience a sound bath with all the benefits it brings, in either a group, or just a person, with choosing to work with individual or various tools (you know, gongs, crystal, etc) to produce selective sounds with a selective range of vibrations emitted by the instrument(s), which is played by a practitioner. You will be asked to just lie down on your back just as if you're about to sleep, feeling relaxed, slowly allowing your state of energy to slow down, & start listening to the sounds that are slowly introduced. Some studio could use more than an instrument during a session, the reason for this is to allow your brain to shift through the different wave & state of awareness, just by listening.
Is there anything else i need to know before attending a sound session?
Always take a light jumper or fabric as the only thing you might not want to experience is to feel extremely cold throughout the session, & come with no expectation for any session even if it's the same studio as you could experience it differently. Just think of it as a laying down yoga session. As most sessions are done after the day is done, you can even come with work clothes if you must.
