What is a Sound Bath?As the title says, sound bath sessions is all about bathing yourself or surrounding yourself with specific vibrational frequencies that promotes healing, relaxation, create higher mind/ body awareness, meditate & may help to facilitate healing both mental & physical trauma(s). Sound healing aka sound bath has been around for decades dating back to the very first time humans realised that certain frequencies that are emitted by nature, brings a different state of mind/ body experience, such as waves, birds chirping, wind howls etc. Now a sound bath is used with so many instruments that provides different frequencies that allows a theme to follow in most studios/ private spaces. Music therapyMusic/ sound has been studied & used in therapy, one of the biggest start was with the United States military. They incorporated music into their programmes for the recuperation of army personnel during World War II. This in the sound healing world, is referred to as the start of it all. To date, sound healing has taken a whole variety of healing with claims to have treated health conditions such as, cancer cells, insomnia/ anxiety, stress & amongst others that have been reported either in studies or anecdotal. Vibrational frequenciesVibration in quantum physics means that e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g is energy. If you remember your chemistry class in school, you'd remember that everything is made up of atoms, & the law of nature also states, that everything in this material world has a vibration. Hippies were on to something when they said, it's all about the vibes! From the plants, to the machines, to soil, our table, phones, air, water, even the dude beside you etc. Have ever had someone you don't know walk into a room that you were in, & felt that something about the person, just isn't right, & made you a little bit wary of? That's the simplest form of vibrational frequency that we experience on a day to day level, without even thinking about it, & remember that your cells vibrate at different frequency when you think, feel emotions, move & so on.
Have you ever heard of the law of attraction? In which you will only attract people you actually vibrate towards. You would rarely see a person who is zen hang out with a metal head going for concerts and doing gigs, nor will you ever see a happy go lucky person have a close friend who is always pessimistic, angry and never open to suggestions. When you carefully select your frequencies & bring it to a sound healing session, it becomes a concert for the body to resonate, respond, & allow healing to take place, mentally & physically. "Everything In Life Is Vibration - Elbert Einstein " We use vibrational frequencies on many level Brain waves Brainwaves change according to what we’re doing and feeling. When slower brainwaves are dominant we can feel tired, slow, sluggish, or dreamy. The higher frequencies are dominant when we feel wired, or hyper-alert. Gamma (38 TO 42 HZ) Beta wave (12 TO 38 HZ) Alpha wave (8 TO 12 HZ) Theta wave (3 TO 8 HZ) Delta wave (.5 TO 3 HZ) What has this got to do with a sound bath? Everything! Prior to starting the sound bath session you will most probably be in the beta state brain wave, where it takes you a couple of moments to relax physically, & mentally. By allowing yourself to relax from moment to moment, you will effortlessly drift your brain waves into the alpha state of relaxation, theta state comes next while you shift & drift into the unconscious & conscious realities, your mind mind & body goes through this journey without you having much to do but just relaxing & allowing the vibrational frequencies chosen during the session to sail you away. "If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration"-Tesla What to wearYou can choose from anything you want as long as it is comfortable enough for you to lie down without being suffocated & loose any form of blood flow to your extremities. A good suggestion is to always be safe than uncomfortable during the whole session which may typically be anywhere from 60-90 minutes, is to bring socks & a thin jumper(long sleeves top), for in cases that you feel to uncomfortably cold during the session & need to add a bit more layer(s) to finish the remaining session more relaxed. The last thing you want is be freezing yourself for the entire session, instead of allowing the vibrational acoustics to do its thing. What not to wearUnless you're in tropical place such as Bali, Maldives & the such, skip from wearing skimpy clothes(eg mini skirt, bikini, short blouse etc) as during a sound bath, you don't actually do anything except lay down lifelessly, which would eventually bring your body temperature to drop. In some case they they may provide you with blankets then you're fine, but if not always ask before attending any sound bath that you are planning to go to what they offer for participants. Some sound bath are so extravagant that they have individual beds, blankets, pillows for each persona that comes in, & some, do it bare with a thin yoga mat & you. Online ImmersionWhile Youtube offers tremendous amounts of free sounds healing, nothing beats the experience of feeling the vibrations of what is offered during the session first hand. The simplest form of sound bath is a music from your playlist that you play through the speakers & feel the vibrations, but, without the selective frequencies to promote healing, relaxation, or just about anything you desire to achieve within a session. What to do during a sound bath? All you do is nothing, in other words, RELaxx. Allow the embracing of the sounds to come to your ears, the vibrations to travel on to your skin & allow it to vibrate through to your cells to a higher vibration that facilitates healing. Also, best if you have any form of electronics that emit a frequency, put them away from you, it can be from the watch, to the phone(s) or just about anything on you that emits a separate frequency. You want to fully allow the vibrations to not be intercepted away from reaching your body. What if i fall asleep? Sleep if you would. It doesn't change anything about the sound bath session as the vibration will still travel to you while you sleep. However, to help you meditate deeper, keeping your awareness of what your mind- body experiences just by true observations can really transform a person or take your meditation to a wider form of awareness, if anything allow the sound to play you a lullaby to sleep. Falling sleep is a sign that you are able to relax yourself fast so don't sweat it if you do fall asleep. What is used during a sound bath? With sound bat session there are no limits to what may or can be used during the session(s). What you want to do is to know what different studios/ venues use as to get a rough idea on the theme if it interests you, or to see if it resonates with how you are feeling that particular day. Who can attend a sound bath?Pretty much anyone from young to old, animals, plants, in that aspect, every living matter can benefit from a sound immersion. That is why each session even if it may be using the same tools, may be experienced differently because from day to day & moment to moment, we are never the same in thoughts, feelings emotions, state of mind & physical, & so on. Is sound bath religious? Not at all. A good sound bath immersion can have you experience more than just a lying down & sleeping session than what most people who has never attended one, & if you did attend one, hopefully you have found an amazing experience, be it, to relax, meditate or just lower your stress levels.
