1/25/2020 0 Comments What is Medical Yoga TherapyWhat is Medical Yoga TherapyYoga has seen an increase in both lay people & healthcare's interests. More recently science has been on the topic of how yoga may be used in conjunction with other types of therapy. Medical Yoga Therapy is a line of modalities that has been approved by medical researchers that it has significant percentage of facilitating both healing of the mind & body through learning how to induce self relaxation & promote increased/ improved well- being. Yoga has not changed for thousands of years & chances are, they're still practised the same way it has been before. One thing to note that while some of "yoga stuffs" that one will be exposed to are still not being accepted in the mainstream medical industry, due to insufficient statistics from research. Some say science is behind, some says only science can prove if it's safe & effective, & we have some that believe you don't have to wait for science to validate a validity of a topic if you can experience an improved lifestyle and wellbeing. Whatever you believe in & think of it, Yoga is here to stay & with a very high likelihood of being in mainstream medical care system as some countries are already adapting it with doctors prescribing yoga as therapy. With the current increase in numbers for aerial demands, studios are having a waitlist for students that wants to try join a class! With this demand calls for demands in training and competitiveness in trying to grab the most numbers of students in a class. So how much is a class for aerial you ask? Well look below to know the classes, frequency and pricing for each of the current studios that are available for you to try out classes:
It goes by many names, Aerial Yoga, Hammock Fitness, Floating yoga, Air Yoga, and a few others. The principles are the same throughout the differences in name, a loop of material(hardly ever with silks) , with you learning movements which translate into, being in a certain posture with a name! It's one of the fastest trending things that is catching up after Bikram Yoga(hot yoga), with studios that has a long line of waitlist of students coming in. The idea of fun is usually associated with aerials, but fortunately with the nature of teaching it, teachers are usually well exposed and trained in using them outweighs the fun part as the teacher would ensure the best possible fun without causing injury. It has benefits that not many people know, so here we are helping to educate everyone how doing aerial can be more than what you know!
Yin - Yang's(derived from Taoism) concept can be found in life and everywhere we look. A good example of the principle is observing the Sun & Moon, White & Black, Stone & Water, Cold & Hot temperature, Awake & Sleeping, Female & Male, and as you can see they are polar opposites. In activities of the body and mind, a physical activity is considered Yang and more meditative state of being is the Yin.
Yin Yoga, developed by Paulie Zink, is a martial artist and philosophically, has his beliefs on Taoism and Yoga. With a combination of both personal practice and beliefs, he crafted out a new form of approach of practice. He didn't develop this to be a religious ritual, however, just laying Taoism as a universal principles to the session that is, to embody harmony with the mind and body. Ever since Paulie's development of Yin Yoga, there has been a widespread of teachings and practices which doesn't necessarily be taught by Paulie himself. As Yin yoga sessions are a wide variety which can include meditation, breath works, PNF or Contract Relax(more for MSK geeks) to see how wide it can be. Yin yoga classes can also be changed and suited to personalise a session for those coming in for certain goals(eg knee pain, emotional trauma, etc). Yin yoga, just like any other yoga lessons lends the same conceptual idea that nothing is different and that we need to learn how to live in harmony and not disturb the flow of life, but to be with the flow of universal energies around us. The session can be broken down to suit the crowd that is walking in, from meridians stimulations, kinetic chain releases, visceral organs, the five elements(water, fire, ether, space and earth) and so much more. Having an emotional release is also known to happen during lessons. Props such as bolsters, cushions, pillows, blankets, blocks, and any form of material that allows help to support your limbs may be used in some classes. 9/3/2019 3 Comments 10 benefits of Yoga NidraSleep is a non negotiable physiological process. You have to have enough sleep to recover, maintain your wellbeing and rid of any by-products that you have accumulated during the day which can be induced by foods, the environment and even mental and physical stress. It's said that a 30-minute yoga nidra practice is equivalent to 2-4 hours of sleep, but that doesn't mean that this Yoga nidra now, will be replacing your sleep, it doesn't! It's more of a power nap or used to guide yourself to sleep, and on a deeper level, to know yourself. We have four main brain waves that any kid or adult will go through. For most of us, these data or insights to our brain waves don't matter. We don't need to know, but it's good to know where you have your brain waves at in different times and situations of the day. This can help you be aware of your rest time during sleep and how to switch to different brain waves to help you maintain sanity of the stress in your environment.
Freedom for each individual means something different. Some people sees money being the answer to freedom, some would say freedom is being able to accept yourself or others around you, but freedom in it's essence is freedom of, from, with and to everything. Yog's teachings are simple to none. There is no religion or god to pray to, and if you are in a religion then you use yoga as a platform to get deeper into the connection of your religion's almighty. "Real freedom is when you surrender & let go" Do i need freedom if everything in my life is going great and i have everything?
See the problem arises not when you have everything and life has no fault with it, it's perfect do to speak. As life is, events can take a steep turn sometimes changing us as a whole or even stop us on our tracks, and when life happens you need to be able to mentally grasp what is going on. Being free of all things doesn't mean two things, one you get oblivious to everything, second, you dont want to progress and work as you just have decided to let go and surrender to whatever comes. Why you say? It's mindless and unconscious. When you do things mindlessly and not consciously, no-one gets anywhere but pain and suffering increases. When you do anything consciously and mindfully, love flourishes with everyone and everything, and when that happens every individual cares almost automatically and feel for each other and the environment. 8/25/2019 0 Comments Yoga studio SingaporeMSMC has two yoga studio one being the main hall and the other called the loft. 8/18/2019 0 Comments Yoga studio near meLooking for a beginners class near you? We are located in the hearts of Little India & have a variety of class waiting for your presence, from asana(postures) to mindful meditation. With so many yoga studio popping up, one is spoilt for choice looking for a yoga studio to either start a practise or start the wellness journey with yoga, whatever your reasons are. There are three questions you ask yourself when looking for a yoga studio:
If you have answered all three questions, you will then move towards trying a trial class to see if the dynamics of the teachers are towards what you like to continue with and what their personal beliefs are. Some teachers are more instructional, some of them are hands on and some of us just don't like to be man handled while being adjusted, and some of the teachers are more spiritually inclined so the session will have specific instructions to go deep, some are strict and some are always relaxed. Whatever the yoga teachers bring with them to the mat, you need to experience it yourself as someone who eats the same chocolate cake might not go through the same experience inside with you, always! Being in the presence of the teacher, you will get a personal view and opinion what you prefer to learn in your current journey and if the sessions during the yoga class will help you move towards that direction and goal. You as well want someone who is clear with instructions, not leaving you guessing all while you are in class under instructions(give this type of class a miss). Clear instructions allows you to self guide it to yourself and use it whenever you want to repeat the desired outcome, anytime, anywhere. Check with the teachers by asking them questions in a casual conversation to see what their state of mind is. You are a potential student who wants to learn yoga, so what better way can the teacher do to convince you that they are for you. Being or holding the title "Yoga Teacher" is a heavy role, as each individual bears a responsibility for the teachers to teach them the right things, on and off the mat. Being the student, it's imperative to check and not follow in blind faith what the teacher's teachings are and so on. Check also how the place feels when your first visit there and note how it makes you feel and think. A yoga studio should always and we mean 100% of the times homely and never "cold". Look around if their yoga mats are cleaned, what do they use for the mats(materials such as cork-top, foam, etc) old or new, smells funny, floors, are they dirty or squeaky clean. Last but not least, look at once again, the interactions from the teacher and other students. How do they welcome you as an individual and a group? and how does the teacher bring the class together. The teachers ability to bring a class in terms of both energy and focus is overlooked in most studios, as there are too many people in a class, the energy shifts are real when there is too many people who feels off and one can observe by their body language. Allow yourself to always try and shop around studios for a trial class as then and only then will you be able to see and experience the vast difference in teaching principles, personal beliefs, spiritual inclination, physical abilities and so on. Don't be locked into the cycle of going somewhere similar and doing most things same or similar, try meet someone new and change your environment. It creates new pathways to living consciously. We have a few simple tips for those about to go on the yoga journey for whatever reason. Yoga has two aspects of practice, one being the postures and alignment and the other being the mental practice which is meditation. During any of the session, we always want to have loose, comfortable and stretchy materials so to not cut off blood to other parts of the body while practising yoga! For Asana(posture) and meditation classes: One thing you want to make sure is that the leggings are not see through for Asana class! Have a friend on standby for this when you go shopping! Below are some of the pants and shorts you can see what suits your style and comfort.
Everyone knows mediation at some form of level either intellectually or experientially, but not many people know enough about meditation as most of the people out there associate it with a cult or religion of some sort! Before we go into the benefits of meditation, let's try and cover the very basics of meditation so that you will understand the benefits from there itself. The word meditation came from Old French word meditacioun, in turn from Latin meditatio from a verb meditari, meaning "to think, contemplate, devise, ponder". Meditation is a practice where an individual uses a technique – such as mindfulness, or focusing their mind on a particular object, thought or activity – to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state. It's been stated that the yogic sages used this form of mental clarity mindful meditation to achieve enlightenment. One of the more known figures of this practice of meditation to enlightenment is Buddha himself. He achieved enlightenment through a very deep state of mind while wanting to find answers to help humanity as he was exposed later in his adult life, to poverty, death, illnesses, greed and so on. Many others have gone to seek solace to find a higher form of awareness in the everyday experience. Meditation has also been studied in various form of treatments to help treat diseases and illnesses of both mental and physical form. Inflammation When you are in constant state of inflammation, your body goes into a state of constant emotional and physical pain cycle. For some it may manifest into frequent frustration and get angered easily, sometimes moving into depression without realising. Your body takes longer than usual to recover from a light to moderate physical and in most times, accompanied by pain in certain movements which if under noticed in the early stages of acute inflammation may cause to lower your quality of life. Meditation helps to lower, manage and in some cases, you are able to better regulate stress hormones from stress and other related enviromental conditions that causes inflammation. Vagus nerve The vagus nerve is referred to as the emotional nerve. When we have the "gut feeling" and feel funny in our tummy from emotional response(sad or feeling over the top happy) and it's linked to our heart as well from many of the things that is attached to. The vagus nerve is also linked to the regulation of inflammation, it helps to control how much inflammation to release in our body so learning how to tone the vagus nerve is one of the more important and simple ways to help with inflammation. There's many things that help to tone the vagus nerve:
Stress Stress is a very subtle mental aspect of our lives. We can't really see it but experience it in many ways. From relationships, environment, work, exercise and even self driven. The moment that we actually realise stress is taking its toll on our mental aspect and physical, it's usually on the higher side where your body is actually speaking to you to take control and lower the stress level. When we induce stress either by choice or not, we release adrenaline, which increases your heart rate, elevates your blood pressure and boosts energy supplies. Cortisol, the primary stress hormone, increases sugars (glucose) in the bloodstream, enhances your brain's use of glucose and increases the availability of substances that repair tissues. However, too much cortisol and not being able to bring your mind and body out of the "fight or flight" state into the rest and digest, you inhibit many systems in your body from working efficiently. You digestive system slows or stops the normal digestive rate, your blood pressure shoots up, blood vessels now are constantly constricted making blood circulation low and your heart rate goes into overdrive. That list that you just read is not an exhaustive list of what happens but you get the idea of your body system going into a shut down because it thinks that you have to stop to make way for dangerous environment, for you to run or escape the situation, only to repeat it the whole day throughout, becoming weeks and months turn into years. This may lead to other health conditions such as heart disease and other health conditions that may require a deeper more complex check to figure out the manifestations of the years stressors which is now a physical state of being. Stress also causes or promotes inflammation throughout the body, not saying it is the main factor but a higher leading factor to most of the initial health conditions. Meditation and it's benefits:
How meditation benefits everyone
There's a song "Free you mind and the rest will follow", we believe these song is true in every sense that we need to allow the mind to take the driver's seat rather than the mind taking the seat. It drives you around and you are taken for a ride not the other way around. Meditation allows the mind to be controlled or tamed by learning how to observe how the mind works. Meditation is just a way of increasing awareness of the mind and body's connect and how it plays a role in our day to day decisions. Increasing awareness through meditation allows everyone to be happy, relaxed, and experience life in a higher sense of love and respect to everything and anything. Many studies have been done on meditation and is now used for a wide variety of treatments from mental and physical. If you are looking to better your quality of life and looking for a change from either a stressful environment or recovering from an injury, just about whatever is negative and putting it into the positive to balance your life, try a mediation session today. It's a non-religious practice and safe enough for everyone to pick up at any phase of their life, wherever you are. 8/6/2019 0 Comments Meditation for BeginnersWell done on being here. You definitely did not chance upon this, oh wait, do you think this was already part of your journey that you are here reading this? Only you will know, maybe now, later, when you're ready.
