What is Medical Yoga Therapy

Picture
Many more healthcare providers are supporting yoga as a form of alternative therapy

What is Medical Yoga Therapy

Yoga has seen an increase in both lay people & healthcare's interests. More recently science has been on the topic of how yoga may be used in conjunction with other types of therapy. Medical Yoga Therapy is a line of modalities that has been approved by medical researchers that it has significant percentage of facilitating both healing of the mind & body through learning how to induce self relaxation & promote increased/ improved well- being. Yoga has not changed for thousands of years & chances are, they're still practised the same way it has been before. One thing to note that while some of "yoga stuffs" that one will be exposed to are still not being accepted in the mainstream medical industry, due to insufficient statistics from research. Some say science is behind, some says only science can prove if it's safe & effective, & we have some that believe you don't have to wait for science to validate a validity of a topic if you can experience an improved lifestyle and wellbeing. Whatever you believe in & think of it, Yoga is here to stay & with a very high likelihood of being in mainstream medical care system as some countries are already adapting it with doctors prescribing yoga as therapy.

Is Medical Yoga Therapy only for Medical reason

Do you Aerial?
It goes by many names, Aerial Yoga, Hammock Fitness, Floating yoga, Air Yoga, and a few others. The principles are the same throughout the differences in name, a loop of material(hardly ever with silks) , with you learning movements which translate into, being in a certain posture with a name! It's one of the fastest trending things that is catching up after Bikram Yoga(hot yoga), with studios that has a long line of waitlist of students coming in. The idea of fun is usually associated with aerials, but fortunately with the nature of teaching it, teachers are usually well exposed and trained in using them outweighs the fun part as the teacher would ensure the best possible fun without causing injury. It has benefits that not many people know, so here we are helping to educate everyone how doing aerial can be more than what you know!

What Yin Yoga is and the top 5 benefits

Picture
Yin- Yang is everywhere
Yin - Yang's(derived from Taoism) concept can be found in life and everywhere we look. A good example of the principle is observing the Sun & Moon, White & Black, Stone & Water, Cold & Hot temperature, Awake & Sleeping, Female & Male, and as you can see they are polar opposites. In activities of the body and mind, a physical activity is considered Yang and more meditative state of being is the Yin.

Yin Yoga, developed by Paulie Zink, is a martial artist and philosophically, has his beliefs on Taoism and Yoga. With a combination of both personal practice and beliefs, he crafted out a new form of approach of practice. He didn't develop this to be a religious ritual, however, just laying Taoism as a universal principles to the session that is, to embody harmony with the mind and body. Ever since Paulie's development of Yin Yoga, there has been a widespread of teachings and practices which doesn't necessarily be taught by Paulie himself. As Yin yoga sessions are a wide variety which can include meditation, breath works, PNF or Contract Relax(more for MSK geeks) to see how wide it can be. Yin yoga classes can also be changed and suited to personalise a session for those coming in for certain goals(eg knee pain, emotional trauma, etc). Yin yoga, just like any other yoga lessons lends the same conceptual idea that nothing is different and that we need to learn how to live in harmony and not disturb the flow of life, but to be with the flow of universal energies around us. The session can be broken down to suit the crowd that is walking in, from meridians stimulations, kinetic chain releases, visceral organs, the five elements(water, fire, ether, space and earth) and so much more. Having an emotional release is also known to happen during lessons. Props such as bolsters, cushions, pillows, blankets, blocks, and any form of material that allows help to support your limbs may be used in some classes.

10 benefits of Yoga Nidra

Picture
Sleepless nights burning you out?
Sleep is a non negotiable physiological process. You have to have enough sleep to recover, maintain your wellbeing and rid of any by-products that you have accumulated during the day which can be induced by foods, the environment and even mental and physical stress. It's said that a 30-minute yoga nidra practice is equivalent to 2-4 hours of sleep, but that doesn't mean that this Yoga nidra now, will be replacing your sleep, it doesn't! It's more of a power nap or used to guide yourself to sleep, and on a deeper level, to know yourself.

Brain waves stages
We have four main brain waves that any kid or adult will go through. For most of us, these data or insights to our brain waves don't matter. We don't need to know, but it's good to know where you have your brain waves at in different times and situations of the day. This can help you be aware of your rest time during sleep and how to switch to different brain waves to help you maintain sanity of the stress in your environment.
