​If you're in New York City, you'd have the possibility of attending a stretch class/session at special stretch studios taught by, a stretch specialist(yes there s such a thing).
In Singapore, chances are, you'd not have gone for a group stretching class that helps you target tight muscles such as your lower back, hips, & the obvious connective tissue bit. Something that most people don't know is that there's actually no fitness studio or gym in Singapore that offers such targeted stretch sessions (& no this isn't a foam rolling/foam rollers class)!If you want to attend a stretching class without the actual act of boring stretching poses, you are at the right place.

What are Stretch Mob(stretch mobility) classes?

Our stretch classes(stretch mob) series is unlike the webarre stretch technique, a yoga class, pilates, or the typical boring form of stretch session where you hold the stretches(& wait for a release that never happens to the muscles). Our group classes Stretch mob is a true exploration of your body where we look at the movement, rather than individual muscle groups & stretching takes place in a more natural active/ dynamic manner, using your body to :
  • Improve flexibility in tight muscles,
  • Having a greater range in your joint
  • Prevent injury
  • Improving overall strength
  • Improve lymphatic system
Our stretching classes (stretch mob) don't target muscles, but the whole body in unison within a movement which can have a big impact on how your connective tissue stretches & improve joint range
Tight muscles are a common part of body aches(& vice versa) that we have, & may be caused by areas of imbalances. This may lead to an increased risk of injury from moving or starting in the wrong biomechanics & range of motion.

Why do injuries happen?

Like it or not, most people will have experienced a form of injury from either having, & here are some of the factors that you need to know how it happens:
  1. Bad form during a workout (resistance training)
  2. Low flexibility
  3. Wrong choice of stretching choice for your activity
  4. Body not used to have moved in a different direction/ loading
  5. Posture imbalances
  6. No stretching was done
The idea that exercises/ workouts is the only thing to do to improve your fitness, is the biggest misconception most people have. A great stretch class such as our stretch mobility stretch session is in itself a workout/exercise session, which can greatly improve your overall fitness & everything else that you have found hard as an activity.

What areas are most susceptible to injuries?

Our muscles & ligaments have a set amount of tension that they can go through & this factor relies heavily on how they have been trained or moved. To name two of the more common areas are, the hips & shoulders with the highest incidence because the shoulders are more mobile due to instability. The hips, on the other hand, get no love(stretches) & are usually tight than mobile, which increases the risks of injuries with certain exercises or workouts.

Most of how we engage your body to help improve flexibility are through movement-based exercise which will include plenty of :

  2. Passive,
  3. & something known as reciprocal inhibition(neuroscience)
