Super Stretch Class

Super stretch Yoga class
Super Stretch | SS
Many people are asking what is this class about?! So we decided to write it out for those who want a full spectrum of what happens and what type of benefits can one experience.

Everyone knows a stretch or two but to increase a stretch you normally would find an end range of the stretch and hold it, sometimes when we go for a class or have a buddy around, we ask for help and the help will be of someone pushing you deeper into the stretch. Sounds familiar, as we all have done it in some ways intentionally or unintentionally. Super stretch yoga class is based on sound and most current anatomy, physiology, and neuroscience. It is gentle, slow and will work you in ways you didn’t think possible, using your own body(no machine).

What benefits does the SS class have?

The Nervous System
A class like SS benefits both the nervous system and the musculoskeletal system. To start with, we learn how to turn our awareness from external to internal, allowing the mind to slow down and shift your focus to the body parts that you are trying to stretch. Slowing down the energies of your body through breath awareness guide helps shift your tension to move into relaxation. This further helps to tone up your vagus nerve which is a nerve that speaks to the heart and gut. If you are in constant stress or tension, the vagus nerve is responsible for instructions to the gut to produce more stress hormones and your heart gets stressed heavily, all of which goes unnoticed until it gets to you in a health condition that you may seek a healthcare provider.
.
The musculoskeletal system
There is a hierarchy with the systems, and the brain(nervous system) is the software, body the hardware. Once you have put in the coding to the software, then will you be able to work on the hardware. In normal times, most of us generally just stretch thinking that it will only increase a year later or worse, you develop injuries while trying to stretch yourself. Only when that is done(software to hardware tune-ups) do we move forward to the muscles and the soft tissues around our joints as now your body will release the reflex or tightening up. The breath will deepen as you move through the class, the body will learn that the tissues now have more space more movements, nutrients to flow through and by, tension throughout the body lessens from the environment you have re-wired through regulating the nervous system, allows for a deeper stretch without tension. For those geeky ones, simply put, you don't turn to engage the Golgi tendon/ muscle spindles reflexes to turn on.

A Super Stretch class is not 100% passive class, which means it will have you work on your own body to release any tension built-up from the emotional, mental or physical trauma we have put ourselves through. The class may hold a theme of meridians, kinetic chain(anatomy trains) and other relevant sciences to help students understand how they are affecting their body depending on the themes and increasing their understanding of what goes through on a cellular level that affects the body as a whole.
SS class is developed for a full-body stretch done in two sessions(lower/ upper body) to maximise focus and awareness and to progress in our individual speed. This ensures that every individual that joins the class can progress, not towards perfection but towards better, each session. The SS class is great for:
  • Tight muscles
  • Joint restrictions
  • Movement dysfunction
  • Stress reduction
  • Increasing breath
  • Pain during movements
  • Looking to improve sports performance
  • Improve Vagus Nerve tone
  • Reduce inflammation in your body
  • Increase focus
  • Increase awareness of your own body
  • Improve well being
  • To strengthen and tone up
  • Recovery from post-surgery
  • Elderly
  • Sports team
  • Office(deskbound job)
  • Increase physical activity
  • Decrease tightness in the neck area( eg. headaches, migraines etc)
  • Decrease compression of the joints (joint wear & tear or degeneration)

As always, if unsure, seek a medical physician and speak to them about the class and let them advise you before engaging in any physical activities for your wellbeing.

The session is 60 minutes.
