What is in a HIIT(high intensity interval training) class?
The HIIT workout hype continues strong and that's a good thing. Not only does HIIT workouts get you sweating, it helps you build & improve cardiovascular fitness, . HIIT is an exercise program that involves fast bursts of intense exercises followed by periods of rest. Proven to increase metabolism & build strength, the formula delivers similar benefits to high intensity aerobic exercises to help you drive your base metabolic rate to efficiently use fat for fuel. Essentially, high-intensity interval training can affect the aerobic & anaerobic systems at greater rates. What is a typical HIIT workout?
HIIT class durations vary—some classes last 30 to 45mins, while others take up to 60min. At MSMC, we believe working out smarter is essential, thus you don't need to do anything more than 45 mins to get results(our clients can vouch for it). HIIT aims to not only improve muscular endurance, but overall conditioning as well, by doing whole body exercise in the shortest time. It's better to have frequent shorter classes than to go to longer durations classes(longer doesnt mean better) & do it only once, twice weekly. The consistency in HIIT helps you adapt to the movements & reduces the chances of injury. Spin classes, martial arts(eg muay thai), & even tools such as battle ropes, medicine balls or kettlebells may be combined depending on the type of class you attend.
Is HIIT good for beginners?
At MSMC, our team of sports medicine trainers are always on form first to avoid injury, movement patterns second to improve movement efficiency, & lastly, modifications. Our studio is catered to beginners to learn & get workouts in a class to improve the ability to do more strenuous activity each new session. With us there will always be a choice to do something of a less intense activity so that you can go at your own phase that you can progress.
