What are Stretch classes?
People in most countries form the idea that yoga or pilates is a group stretch class, & some studios in Singapore still do a set amount of static stretches to muscle groups during the stretch session/ classes. In order for the body to improve flexibility, stretches need to be exercises that workout the mobility in your joints, & access to movement/ activities that most people have neglected. While it's something that we don't think about until there are aches & pains in our body, an ideal range of motion is part of having a pain-free life. There are many ways to help improve your range of motion, & problem areas such as the lower back, hips, ankles which lose strength & stability causing the body structure to hold a higher risk of injury during fitness activities. Flexibility is just one part of an overall requirement, especially for athletes, fitness must cover the different intensity & types of stretches that are specific to avoid injuries.
What is a pure stretch class?
In Singapore, many gym/studios offer a mix of stretching sessions (some with foam rolling etc) but are not specific to target the body in such a way that allows a release of the muscle spindles, & Golgi tendon in the muscles.
