We at MSMC believe that in order to find a reputable chiropractor, you need to ensure that they have enough experience with treating and seeing patients that are out of their comfort zone. Which means, they see not only spinal conditions such as herniated discs, or more commonly known as slip disc, and that they are able to see patients from all sorts of conditions to frozen shoulder, knee pain, expecting mums, kids, sporting athletes and so on. It's a big myth that chiros are only able to treat spinal conditions, they are equipped with the same health sciences on anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and musculoskeletal knowledge with being a chiropractic physician! What makes them different is the principles of treatment towards a patient that walks in with pain. Chiropractor believe that the body's health needs a healthy spine, as it is, the spine is the innervation(control room)to everything in us, from the visceral organs(inside our stomach), to the muscles, and our sexual organs, which may be affected if the spine is not in the best alignment(s), which again would be affected by the muscles!

It's one of the more subtle things that we don't think about. It's also one of the few automated happenings in our body that is both involuntary(automatic) and voluntary(can be controlled). Adults, when resting, usually breathe about 12-20 times per minute, and over the course of a day, that adds up to 17,000-30,000 breaths per day — or more. In that it's about about 10,000 to 11,000 litres of air per day! Think about it, even when we sleep, we are still breathing, so why don't we notice or think about breath or breathing? If breath is related to so many aspects of our lives from emotional to physical being, which is our day to day living, shouldn't we be taking care of how we breath? By the end of this article we hope to have you know why breath works can be something you pick up and practise.
Well if you're looking for a bungee fitness or bungee dance class, there's a few things you need to know prior to attending your first session.
Bungee fitness is gaining popularity for a good reason. The equipment allows a simulation of being in the swimming pool, in such a way that it provides buoyancy, by thrusting your body weight upwards. This can mean a lot of things for the consumers:
What this means
Just as it is with being in the pool having more buoyancy, you get less of your weight bearing on your joints, which means you can now take this opportunity to get the body to move, re-engage the muscles to help with stabilisation and strengthen up those deep stabilisers to get you stronger and increase more synovial fluid at the joints. When your brain doesn't engage the pain receptors, it will allow you to move freely!
Many of us cringe at the thought of having a chiropractor adjust the neck and spine, while some that's experienced a session of adjustment swears by it. If you have lower back pain, you are not alone. About 80 percent of adults experience low back pain at some point in their lifetimes. This article aims to provide educational aspects of what chiropractors do, what manipulation is and if you need to see a chiropractor. and other alternatives out there.
What does a Chiropractor do?
A "DC"(doctor of chiropractic), whose education typically includes an undergraduate degree plus four years of chiropractic college. Chiropractors base their treatments on the theory being that proper alignment of the body's musculoskeletal structure, particularly the spine, enables the body to heal itself without surgery or medication, and this is achieved through hands-on spinal manipulation.
Manipulation is used to restore mobility to joints restricted by tissue injury caused by a traumatic event, such as falling, or repetitive stress, such as working out or sitting slouched at a desk(sound familiar?).
Chiropractic is primarily used as a pain relief alternative for muscles, joints, bones, and connective tissue, such as cartilage, ligaments, and tendons, and have been used for maintenance of your body's wellness. It's sometimes used in conjunction with conventional medical treatment.
What the crack was that?
An audible cracking/ popping sound is usually followed by the chiropractic adjustment. That audible popping sound is known as cavitation of the joints. It's the same sound that happens when you crack your knuckles(there's been studies that suggest of long term cracking of knuckles showing no adverse effects but more studies needs to be done in this area).
Research on spinal manipulation
There are tons of research out there to suggest that spinal manipulation may help with certain conditions and there's ton of the polar opposite as well, so with both sides of the coin available, consumers would have to ultimately make the choice to see a chiropractor or try an alternative. Injuries and severe mishaps from manipulations are very rare under the hands of a qualified and experienced practitioner. Whatever it is, always seek someone whom is a licensed chiropractor with experience treating your condition, and understands your concern about having your spine manipulated.
Sports massage. Many of us whom have heard of it and to some who's even tried it, know from others that it is a form of deeeeep tissue massage which is painful. Is this type of massage painful? Let's breakdown the fundamentals of what makes a sports massage and why you should get it..or not.
Definition of sports massage
It's a form of massage targeted towards the recovery of muscle soreness, prior to a sporting event or to prevent injury, by increasing blood flow and promote freedom of muscle's movement. Usually, it's more utilised by people who are slightly more active in sports and athletics as it helps mostly with recovery and injury management/ preventative.
Sports massage has three basic forms:
What can sports massage help with?
What can i expect during a typical sports massage session?
As with any form of therapy, the session would usually have an assessment on your movements and questions about what you want to achieve which may take anywhere from 5 minutes to 20 minutes depending on how complex your condition is. Typically, the session are anywhere from 30 minutes - 90 minutes, again depending on where you go and the therapist that is working on you, your goals, everything will usually be decided prior to the appointment. A form of emollient or oil is used to help with the techniques along the muscles. The therapist may use one or more of the following body parts to help achieve different depths of targeted tissue work and the positions for them to best leverage on your body parts:
There's much speculation about how Aerial classes hold so much benefit for the body. Most of the poses in the gravity defying class allows your joints to be decompress and in some poses, even your spine may be targeted to get the best of decompression of the spine, but not without it's precautions to those with existing spinal conditions that needs a medical attention. With the current increase in numbers for aerial demands, studios are having a waitlist for students that wants to try join a class! With this demand calls for demands in training and competitiveness in trying to grab the most numbers of students in a class. So how much is a class for aerial you ask? Well look below to know the classes, frequency and pricing for each of the current studios that are available for you to try out classes:
Sports, weekend activity with the company, running for the bus, carrying your kid, some of life's event can make us pretty sore from not doin them often enough. While most of us quickly look for a massage to rid of this soreness, many of consumers don't realise that massage, by itself, is only a temporary relief by relaxation and a slight increase of blood circulation which will lead to less of the soreness, but, there's a small but, massage does not target the muscles, tendon or the connective tissues to be able to restore the normal length of your range of motion. Massage is a very nice way to unwind after a long day or stressful week, but if you have to sort some of your posture or pains or even for sports specific goals, then you need to stretch using a system called FST(Fascial Stretch Therapy).
It goes by many names, Aerial Yoga, Hammock Fitness, Floating yoga, Air Yoga, and a few others. The principles are the same throughout the differences in name, a loop of material(hardly ever with silks) , with you learning movements which translate into, being in a certain posture with a name! It's one of the fastest trending things that is catching up after Bikram Yoga(hot yoga), with studios that has a long line of waitlist of students coming in. The idea of fun is usually associated with aerials, but fortunately with the nature of teaching it, teachers are usually well exposed and trained in using them outweighs the fun part as the teacher would ensure the best possible fun without causing injury. It has benefits that not many people know, so here we are helping to educate everyone how doing aerial can be more than what you know!
